The recently unveiled Sydney Metro stations project comprises of 8 stations and pioneers the first leg of Sydney’s new driverless railway system.

Hassell was responsible for the project’s architecture and landscape architecture while Jadecross collaborated with WSP to deliver specialist lighting services for all new metro stations. The new stations include Rouse Hill, Cherrybrook, Castle Hill, Showground, Norwest, Bella Vista, Kellyville, Cudgegong Road and are characterised by “order, simplicity and resilience” said Principal of Hassell, Ross del la Motte.

Working alongside Star Electrical, Jadecross and WSP explored options to meet Hassell’s fundamental brief and were solution oriented when selecting Ligman’s highly engineered lighting technology as an outcome.

With many stations boasting an impressive scale, covered by enormous elliptical canopies, it was essential for the selected luminaires to match in scale proportionately. Ligman produced large custom sized Tango post tops which were supplied for every station, maintaining consistency in function and form.

It was also crucial that the Tango was adaptable and could be utilised throughout the various domains for differing functions, without compromising on performance. Using different optics within each Tango, depending on where it was situated created a uniform appearance physically while still delivering customised optics for each location. Some for commuter pathways and others for area lighting within each environment.
